Ivan Ladislav Galeta

Ivan Ladislav Galeta (born in Vinkovci in 1947) was a Croatian multimedia artist and a film director.

Biography

He graduated from fine arts studies in 1969 at the Pedagogical Academy in Zagreb, and later continued continued his professional education at the Academy of Philosophy in Zagreb in 1981, where he studied pedagogy. Between 1977 and 1990 he worked as a spokesman for the Center for Multimedia Research at the Student Center in Zagreb, where he developed one of the leading programs for alternative film and video in Croatia. He was the founder and program editor of “Filmoteka 16” Cinema (1991-1994). In 1993, he began to work as an associate at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb at the department of Multimedia. Later, in 1997, he become the dean and a full-time professor in 2007.

He was also one of the founders of the Department for Animated Film and Multimedia orientation at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. He worked on various domains of audio-visual arts, but he is best known for his experimental films, photo-installations and sound projects which he based on his unique understanding of transcendental spirituality. In his experimental films he focuses on time and space of projections. Galeta’s movie “Two times in one Space” is one of the anthological works of the Croatian experimental cinema. Since 1973, he has exhibited object-installations, photo-installations, presentations of extended movies, video and TV works, writings, sound-installations and ambient interventions. From mid 90s he has embraced an ecological orientation in his art with references to Henry David Thoreau, Karel Chapek, Masanobu Fukuoka, James Joyce, Bella Hamvas, Claude Monet and many others. He was also interested in researching the possibilities of the internet in new media arts. He died in Zagreb in 2014.

At the Electronic Music Studio of Radio Belgrade, Ivan Ladislav Galeta created two verbal and spatial experimental projects entitled "Sound project number 1" and "Sound project number 2", in collaboration with Vladan Radovanović.
