New page

In Spe (latin for "Hopeful") was an Estonian progressive rock band.

The band was founded in 1979 and led by Erkki-Sven Tüür. Other members include Anne Tüür, Mart Metsala, Toivo Kopli, Arvo Urb, Riho Sibul and Peeter Brambat. Jaanus Nõgisto, Ilmar Laisaar, Alo Mattiisen and others also performed with the band occasionally. They were one of the first bands in Estonia to integrate synthesizers in their music, notably a modular analogue synthesizer with three oscillators and noise generators built by Koit Saarmäe.

In Spe was successful in Estonia and helped launch Erkki-Sven Tüür's career. When the band briefly reunited for a few concerts in 2009 he described it as "the best creative laboratory for me as a beginner composer".
