Katalin Pócs (b. Budapest, June 4th 1963, d. September 27 2019, Budapest) <sup>[2]</sup> was a [[:Category: Hungary|Hungarian]] composer who taught piano and improvisation at the Nádasdy Kálmán Art School in Budapest with an active composer activities. She was a member of the Association of Hungarian Composers and the Art Fund. Her orchestral, chamber and electroacoustic works can often be heard on the Hungarian Radio, as well as in Hungarian and foreign concert halls.

== Studies ==
Katalin Pócs began her musical studies in elementary school and quickly became an active improviser. In the composer's own words on an interview with EPER Radio: ''"As a little girl, I composed pieces, mostly piano pieces and smaller songs - with piano experimentation or on my own. I wrote the lyrics for the songs myself"'' She was later admitted to the composition department of the Béla Bartók Secondary School of Music, where István Fekete was her teacher. After graduating, she continued his studies in composition at the Liszt Ferenc College of Music as a student of Emil Petrovics. She graduated in 1988.

She currently teaches piano and improvisation at the Kálmán Nádasdy Art School.

==Awards==
In 1986 she was the first place winner of the Ferenc Liszt composer's competition. In 1992, she finished fourth in a South African competition. She also won second prize in the 1993 composer competition "Music of the Future." In 1987 she was awarded the Kincses Board of Trustees scholarship, and between 1988 and 1991 the [[Zoltán Kodály]] Scholarship. In 2012 she won an award for her work entitled Mourning March at the In Memoriam Zoltán Kodály 3rd Hungarian Composition Competition.

== Published works ==
Several of her works have been published in printed form both in Hungary and abroad. In addition, three pieces have been released on CD so far. In 1995, Hungaroton published the "Young Composer's Group; Anthology - IV" CD, which contains Katalin Pócs's composition for the cimbalom entitled Contemplation (performed by Ildikó Vőző). In the same year, the Hungarian Radio released the composer's piece Hommage. In 2001, the album Harpa Hungarica was self-released.
