klangFarBe was a cassette label founded in 1985 in the East German city of Chemnitz (then known as Karl-Marx-Stadt) by Frank Bretschneider. Owing to the communist GDR's chokehold on arts and culture, all eight of klangFarBe's releases of minimal wave-esque music were released secretively, in very limited runs. The label remained relatively out of reach even after German reunification—only AG Geige's 1987 album Yachtclub + Buchteln was given a reissue, back in 1998.
