Der Expander des Fortschritts ("The expander of progress" in English) was a band from East Berlin. One of the first GDR underground bands, they were dedicated to avant-garde and experimental music.

The band was founded in 1986 by Susanne Lehmann (later Binas), Eckehard Binas, Mario Persch and Uwe Baumgartner. Exploring an avant-garde and experimental sound, they paved the way for other exploratory bands in the GDR. In 1988 and 1989, they released two tapes, Urknall Horde Mensch and Der Expander des Fortschritts followed by the Ad Acta album in 1990. In late 1990, the band attempted to continue working together as Four For Fortschritt, but dissolved soon afterwards.
