Agustí Fernández (born in Palma de Mallorca, 1954), is a [[:Category: Spain|Spanish]] pianist and composer mainly active in jazz music, but who has also composed for dance, theater, cinema, television and fashion shows. He teaches improvisation at the Escuela Superior de Música de Cataluña (ESMUC) since 2001, and has also taught at IRCAM, the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre de Tallin, the Royal Conservatory in The Hague (Holland), the Conservatory in Arhem (Holland), the Taller de Músicos in Gijón (Spain), the Taller de Músics in Barcelona (Spain) and the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Salamanca (Spain).

A professional musician since he was thirteen, he first studied the piano in his hometown, then moving on to Barcelona, to France and then Germany. Among his most important musical influences are Cecil Taylor and [[Iannis Xenakis]], with whom he studied in 1978.

In 1985 he published his first album, "Ardent" for the solo piano, which marked his career as a free improviser. In 1998 he joined Andrés Corchero in an artistic partnership which resulted in several dance shows.

His vast career spans decades and to date he has published over 80 records.  Has been a part of several jazz groups, including the Mandorla duo with flautist Jane Rigler (2001), the Ensemble Impromptu with Pep Llopis (2002), the Agustí Fernández Quartet (2003), a collaboration with flamenco singer Miguel Poveda (2004-2005, for the album "Desglaç"), the Fernández/Guy/López trio (2005), and the Slow band with David Mengual, David Xirgu and Dani Domínguez (2005). Throughout this time he has also maintained collaborations with a vast array of musicians in the free improvisation scene such as Peter Kowald, Derek Bailey, Butch Morris, Evan Parker, Barry Guy, Mats Gustafsson, Joel Ryan and Peter Evans, among others. Currently he is a member of the Blue Shroud Band, Mats Gustafsson NU Ensemble and Barry Guy New Orchestra.

In 2011 he was the subject of the documentary film "Los dedos huéspedes" by Lucas Caraba, which was presented at several international documentary festivals.
