In 1984 she graduated from J. Medins College of Music and in 1989 she was awarded a Master's degree in Musicology from the Latvian State Conservatoire.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
She began writing about music in 1987, and for a while was the only popular music journalist in the Soviet press, overseen by the Music Council of the Soviet Youth, which she later led.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
From 1988 to 1991 she played keyboards in the avant-garde band [[19 Gadi Pirms Sākuma|&amp;quot;19 Gadi Pirms Sākuma&amp;quot;]].&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
She has published widely in the Latvian music press, and has written several books related to music, including books about the group &amp;quot;Jumprava&amp;quot;, composer Raimonds Pauls and singer Eve Akurateri.&lt;br /&gt;
