Gyula Csapó (1955) is a contemporary [[:Category:Hungary|Hungarian]] musician, creator of many chamber works and electronic music pieces. He was born in Pápa. In the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, he studied under – among others – György Kurtág, Péter Eötvös, Albert Simon. He got private lessons from Zoltán Jeney, and in 1979 he joined the New Music Studio. He graduated as a composer in 1981, in the same year he studied electronic music in Paris under David Wessel and Stephen McAdams, thanks to a French state scholarship. Between 1983 and 1987 with a scholarship he made further education under Morton Feldmann. He earned his PhD in 1989 and taught at the McGill University in Montreal and the Princeton University. He made a strong relationship with many American composers (John Cage, Christian Wolff). Since 1994 he is a professor at the University of Saskatchewan, but he still regularly teaches at the Liszt Ferenc University of Music. In 1995 the city of Cologne organized an evening concert with his works, and the American record label Open Space released his first album titled ’A Desert March.’ In 1999 the ’Handshake after shot’ album was released. His ’Concerto for Viola and a Changing Environment’ presented in 2008, this work has chosen as ’The Pop Music of the Year’ in 2009.
