Vitaliy Vladimirovich Patsera (Ukrainian: Віталій Володимирович Пацера; born January 20, 1936, Ulyanovka, Belopolsky district, Sumy region) is a [[Category: Ukraine|Ukrainian]] composer.

==Biography==
Vitaliy Patsera graduated from the Kiev Musical College in 1956. He belonged to the so-called Kiev avant-garde (along with [[Vitaly Hodzyatsky|Hodzyatsky]], [[Volodymyr Huba|Huba]], [[Valentin Silvestrov|Silvestrov]], [[Leonid Hrabovsky]], [[Yevhen Stankovych]] and [[Vladimir Zahortsev|Zahortsev]]). In 1966 he graduated from the Kyiv Conservatory, where he studied under [[Boris Lyatoshynsky]] (instrumentation), Konstantin Dankevich (composition), and Lev Revutsky (polyphony).

He worked at the Lutsk Music School from 1963 to 1966. Later, he was assigned to the Perm Music School (1967-1980). At that time he performed in Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, and composed music for radio and television.

In 1981 he returned to Ukraine, settling in Kharkiv and working at its Music School. From 1998 to 2003 he headed the Kharkiv chapter of the Union of Composers of Ukraine.

==Works==
Patsera's musical language is marked by an interest in jazz, and he counts the trombone as one of his favourite instruments, for which he has created more than 20 compositions, the result of a creative collaboration with trombonist Oleg Fedorkov<sup>[1]</sup>. Among Patsera's most important works are "Requiem" for choir, soloists and orchestra, "Symphony of spirits", and the piano sonatas "Undecidable Dialogues", "Orgies at an Eclipse of the Moon", "The Devil and Christ".
