Kaka de Luxe
From Unearthing The Music
Kaka de Luxe was a Spanish punk group created in Madrid at the end of 1977 and made up of Fernando Márquez El Zurdo, Manolo Campoamor, Carlos Berlanga, Enrique Sierra, Alaska and Nacho Canut.
Biography
Kaka de Luxe began as a group of cartoonists and fanzine creators in 1977. Later the group began considering the idea of forming a band to make money, and eventually they decided to follow through despite the fact that none of them could play an instrument, creating punk rock with Carlos Berlanga, Manolo Campoamor and Fernando Márquez El Zurdo as its members, who were later joined by Enrique Sierra, Alaska and Nacho Canut.
In 1978 the band recorded an EP with four songs, entitled Kaka de Luxe.
In 1982, after the dissolution of Fernando Márquez El Zurdo's band, Paraíso, their record company released an EP entitled Kaka de Luxe / Paraíso where six songs from the two groups were collected.
In 1983, to capitalize on the memory of the group, the record companies Chapa Discos and Zafiro released an album with every song by Kaka de Luxe called "Las canciones malditas", which included their first demos. [1]. They albums were released without the permission of the band's members, who never received anything from the album or its reissues.
The band later reformed at the request of Paloma Chamorro for the TVE program, The Golden Age.
Kaka de Luxe was the starting point for many of the most representative characters of the Movida Madrileña, such as:
- The plastic artist Manolo Campoamor, who together with Alaska, Carlos Berlanga and Nacho Canut formed Alaska y los Pegamoides (which Eduardo Benavente and Ana Curra would later join ) and, later, Alaska and Dinarama.
- Nacho Canut, who formed the first incarnation of Parálisis Permanente with Eduardo Benavente.
- Fernando Márquez El Zurdo, who led the bands Paraíso and La Mode.
- Enrique Sierra and Carlos Berlanga, who with Javier Furia, Manolo Campoamor and Herminio Molero created the germ of what would become Radio Futura although only Enrique would be a part of the first official formation.
