Michal Kaščák (* July 4, 1972 , Trenčín ) [1] is a Slovak singer, musician, lyricist, composer and businessman. He is best known as the founder of Bez ladu a skladu and the organizer of the Pohoda music festival, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2016. [2]

Biography

He was born in Trenčín, where he also later graduated from the Ľudovít Štúr Grammar School. He continued his studies at the Faculty of Science pf the Comenius University in Bratislava, majoring in mathematics and geography. [1]

He has been involved in music since childhood: as a 13-year-old he started the group Bez ladu a skladu, with which he recorded 3 albums. In 1987, he met the well-known Czech musician Jiří Stivín and began performing with him at various music festivals.

Since 1997, he has been organizing the Pohoda music festival in Trenčín, which is currently the largest in Slovakia and one of the most popular festivals in Europe.

As a composer, Michal Kaščák co-authored the music for the films:

  • Passionate Kiss (1994)
  • Origin of the World (2002)
  • It Will Remain Between Us (2003)

Awards

  • 2017: Ľudovít Štúr II. class for extraordinary merits for the development of democracy, protection of human rights and freedoms and the development of culture, awarded by the President of the Slovak Republic Andrej Kisk [3]
  • 2018: Radio Head Awards 2017 in the category "Music Contribution Award" [4]
