Dinu Petrescu was a Romanian composer (born 22nd December 1939, died 3rd August 1999).

He graduated from Tiberiu Olah's composition class at the Ciprian Porumbescu Conservatory in Bucharest, and attended the Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in Darmstadt (under Karlheinz Stockhausen, Iannis Xenakis, György Ligeti) for eight years. As a beneficiary of post-graduate fellowships at the Westdeutscher Rundfunk in Cologne (electronic music with Karlheinz Stockhausen) and at the Paris Conservatory (musical analysis and aesthetics with Olivier Messiaen), he founded in 1966 (together with Dan Mercureanu) the electronic music laboratory at the Bucharest Conservatory.
