Iván Patachich (1922–1993) was an Hungarian composer, conductor and music director. Between 1941 and 1947, he studied at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music as a pupil of Albert Siklós, János Viski, Ferenc Szabó, and János Ferencsik. In 1945–1946, he was a music tutor at the State Opera, then he became a choirmaster and music tutor at the Opera-Comique. Between 1952 and 1987, he was the music director of the Hungarian Film Company (MAFILM).

In 1971, Iván Patachich established the EXAUSTUD (Experimentum Auditorii Studii) experimental electronic music studio. He also studied electroacoustic music at the University of Utrecht in 1976–1977, and he became the first composer in Hungary to create electroacoustic music (e.g. ’Experiments’ – 1974; ’Ballad’ – 1976; ’Metamorphosis I.’ – 1977; ’Metamorphosis II.’ – 1977, etc.). In 1976–1977, he made several electroacoustic and computer music experiments. In 1978, he won the electroacoustic prize in Bruges for his work ’Metamorphosi for marimba and tape recorder.’ Then he won the great prize of the French C. I. M. E. in 1984 for his electroacoustic composition ’Ludi spaziali’ (1978). He wrote 2 operas (’Theomachia’ – 1962; ’Brave New World’ – 1989), composed film scores (’May Song’ – 1959; ’Nine Minutes’ – 1960), and many concertos, chamber music, chorals, instrumental music, and symphonic works too.
