Kuzle
From Unearthing The Music
Kuzle was a Yugoslav punk band from Idrija, active between 1980 and 1982. The group was part of the second Slovenian punk wave from the early 1980s, and along with Šund, they were the key figures of the Idrija punk scene, which along with the Metlika-based Indust-bag represented the Slovenian province's answer to the Ljubljana scene (with bands such as Lublanski psi, Buldogi, etc).
This second generation of Slovenian punk earned its place on the compilation "Lepo je..." , released in 1982 by ZKP RTV Ljubljana (today RTV Slovenia), which also features three songs by Kuzle. It was the band’s only official release until 2010.
During the short period they were active, the band was able to record twice at the Radio Študent studio, where they worked with then inexperienced producer Jurij Toni. Besides this, a few other songs (which today can be found on the internet. During the two years of its existence, the group wrote over forty original compositions.
Kuzle suffered a similar fate as the vast majority of young music groups in the former Yugoslavia: their career and creative growth were interrupted by their members going compulsory military service in succession, after which the band disbanded. Some of their members remained active in music and made sure that Kuzle's songs were also part of the repertoire of other groups such as Zablujena Generacija, Big Foot Mama, Videosex and others.
Former members of the band reunited in 2009 and recorded 21 original songs, which were released in January 2010 by Dallas on the album "Do You Remember Kuzle, Comrades?" . Initially, they intended to release old concert recordings, but most of them were considered useless due to poor quality of the recordings, so only a few parts (exclamations, guitar introductions, etc.) were used and included in the new recordings.
In 2012, NE! Records from Sweden released an LP with an accompanying CD entitled "Archived". It contains archival recordings: 10 songs from a performance at Gimnazija Idrija in 1981, all studio recordings (3 from Lepo je ... and 4 from Radio Študent) and 6 recordings from their rehearsals. A total of 23 songs were cleaned and remixed by Iztok Turk in the studio for this release.
