From Unearthing The Music
Vitaliy Oleksiyovych Hodziatsky (Ukrainian: Годзяцький Віталій Олексійович, born 26 December 1936) is a Ukrainian composer and teacher. He has composed music for piano, orchestra, voice, and solo woodwind and string instruments.
He was born in Kiev and studied at Kiev Conservatory with Borys Lyatoshynsky, graduating in 1961. Between 1960 and 1970 he was a member of the so-called "Kiev School", a group of young composers led by conductor and musical educator Igor Blazhkov, whose members studied XX century music, and whose creative principles differed from the ideological and aesthetic attitudes of official Soviet music [1].
In 1970 he was expelled from the Union of Composers of the USSR, and the performance of his works was prohibited.
Primarily a composer of chamber music, he was active in composing using modal dodecaphony and in electronic experiments earlier in his career. He was made a Merited Artist of Ukraine in 1996.
