Vladimír Mišík

Vladimír Mišík (born 8 March 1947) is a Czech rock guitarist and singer.

He was born in Prague to an American soldier and a Slovak nurse working for the Red Cross at the end of WWII in Germany.

He founded his first band, Uragán (where he played the drums), as a teenager.^[1] Later, he became the lead singer of Komety with Radim Hladík. With his friend Radim Hladík he was also a member of The Matadors and in 1968 they co-founded Blue Effect.^[2] In 1970 he left Blue Effect and became a member of Flamengo. He was also a member of Energit. In 1974 he founded his own band, Etc..., where he still plays.

He was banned from performing in 1982, but two years later he was allowed to perform short acoustic concerts on occasion. Eventually these restrictions were lifted and in 1985 he resumed performing with Etc... In 1990 he was elected to the Czech National Council for two years.

In 2004 he was inducted to the Beatová síň slávy, a list of people and bands who have made significant contributions to Czech rock music.^[3]

His album Jednou Te Potkam has been nominated for IMPALA's European Independent Album of the Year Award (2019).^[4]

Astronomers from the Kleť Observatory named a planet in a solar system discovered in 1995 after him. The name Mišík for asteroid No. 18456 was approved by the International Astronomical Union.
