Mārtiņš Brauns

Mārtiņš Brauns (born on September 17, 1951 in Riga ) is a Latvian composer. He was the leader of the rock group Sīpoli ("Onions"), active between 1978-1986.
Biography
Mārtiņš Brauns studied at the Emīls Dārziņš Music High School and the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian State Conservatory. From 1978 to 1986 he was the leader of the rock band "Sīpoli", its keyboardist and main composer. Brauns has written music for theater performances and films, as well as several compositions that have been performed at the General Latvian Song and Dance Festival, including "Saule, Pērkons, Daugava". He has been a member of the Latvian Cinematographers' Union since 1986.
Awards
He has received the Grand Kristaps Award several times. [1] He received the "Copyright Infinity Award 2017" for his song "Dedication", which has been played on television, public and commercial radio channels and in public performance - in concerts in Latvia and Germany. [2] In 2001, he received an award from the Ministry of Culture for his work "Dream of Riga" .
On May 3, 2018, he received the Order of the Three Stars of the 4th class for "For Merits in Culture and Outstanding, Versatile Creative Contribution to Latvian Music". [3]
On February 12, 2019, Mārtiņš Brauns received the Golden Microphone of the Year at the Music Record Awards for his lifelong contribution to the development of Latvian music. [4]
