Ignacio María Gasca Ajuria (San Sebastián, January 4, 1960 - September 18, 1998), better known as Poch, was a Spanish musician, part of several key bands within the Movida Madrileña. Poch "Pochete" received this name in his youth for his sickly character.

Biography

Born in San Sebastián, Poch later moved to Madrid where he was a part of and one of the founders of Ejecutivos Agresivos, his first project with released material (a single called "Mari Pili") and where he was joined by musicians who would later join bands such as Décima Víctima or Gabinete Caligari. After the band's dissolution, he became the founder and leader of Derribos Arias during the 1980s, which achieved a great deal of notoriety within the Madrid scene. Prior to Derribos Arias, Poch had a brief experience with a project called La Banda sin Futuro (The Band Without a Future), with whom he recorded an album that did not see the light at the time and whose pirated copies, with songs like "We are going to disinfect", became a collector's jewel.

After the last studio album by Derribos Arias, in 1984, Poch signed for a multinational company and in 1985 he recorded 'Poch se ha Vuelto a Equivocar' ("Poch has made a mistake again"), a premonitory title, judging by the repercussion and criticisms this move faced [1]. This solo endeavour's success was limited, although it featured songs such as "La Playa", "Como uña y carne" and "El club de Herpes Viríticos".

La Banda sin Futuro was another experience prior to Derribos Arias. With this group, Ignacio Gasca recorded an album that did not see the light at the time and whose pirated copy, with songs like "Nos van a desinfectar", became a collector's item.

The artist would record one more album, entitled "Nuevos sistemas para viajar", with songs such as "Viaje por países pequeños" or "Jureland", before retiring to his family's residence, to tend to his illness: Huntington's disease, a degenerative disease of the nervous system that impairs cognition and mobility which had been diagnosed in the mid-1980s and which led to his death in 1998.

In the mid-1980s, Poch was diagnosed with Huntington's disease, a degenerative disease of the nervous system that impairs cognition and mobility and that would lead to his death in 1998. To help support the artist, many of his friends and fellow musicians came together to record the double vinyl 'Various - El Chico Más Pálido De La Playa Del Gros' (1991), with cover versions of music from his various projects.
