Eduardo Polonio (Madrid , 5 January of 1941) is a Spanish composer and performer of electroacoustic music.

Biography

Eduardo Polonio was born in Madrid on January 5, 1941. He was a student of telecommunications engineering before later abandoning them to focus on his musical formation. He studied piano, harmony, counterpoint and composition at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Madrid, obtaining the title of Professor of Composition in 1968.

He completed his training between 1966 and 1970 by attending the Summer Courses of New Music in Darmstadt, Germany (Internationalen Ferienkurse für Neue Musik-INMD Darmstadt), where he studied instrumentation with Gunther Becker. In 1969 he received a scholarship from the Juan March Foundation for a residence at the Institute of Psychoacoustics and Electronic Music - IPEM (Instituut voor Psychoacoustica in Elektronische Muziek) at the University of Ghent, Belgium. In 1970, Rabelaisiennes, one of his first electroacoustic works for prepared guitar, tape and filters, was selected to participate in the Gaudeamus festival contest, in Amsterdam. He was part of the Koan group in its first stage (1967-1970), as a composer and performer. From 1969 he worked at the Alea Laboratory of Madrid and between 1970 and 1972 he was a member of the Alea Música Electronica Libre group, the first Spanish group exclusively dedicated to the execution of live electroacoustic music.

In 1976 he moved to Barcelona, initiating his collaboration with the Phonos Laboratory of Electroacoustic Music. In 1983 he founded Obert-Art Actual along with Rafael Santamaria, which in 1983, 1984 and 1985 organized the 6 Days of Actual Art festival in Barcelona, dedicated to multimedia art. In 1985 he created the Multimúsica group along with Gabriel Brncic and Claudio Zulian, also specialized in performing live electroacoustic music.

He has been president, between 1988 and 1994, of the Association of Electroacoustic Music of Spain (AMEE). He is currently a member of the International Academy of Electroacoustic Music (Academie Internationale de Musique Eléctroacoustique - AIME-IAEM ) in Bourges, France. In 1994 he obtained the prestigious Magisterium title of the Great International Electroacoustic Music Prize (IMEB) in Bourges.

Polonio played a fundamental role in the Trivio and Cremunute groups, as well as in supporting events such as Meeting Point, Echo and New Sound Proposals.

Since 2000, he has directed the "Confluences, Art and Technology" cycle, held in the city of Huelva, organized by the Junta de Andalucía .

Polonio also participated in the festivals Experimentaclub 02 , La Casa Encendida Madrid (2002) and Experimentaclub 03 , La Casa Encendida, Madrid (2003).

Work

Eduardo Polonio is considered one of the pioneers of electroacoustic music in Spain and has produced more than a hundred works over a career that spans more than forty years. He has also maintained collaborations with dozens of multimedia artists, such as Eugeni Bonet, Eduardo Magliano, Pau Moneder, Carles Pujol, Toni Rueda, Rafael Santamaría and Santiago Torralba.
